I set out on this sunny but cool early Spring, with my camera, to document my traditional routes along the Lachine Canal and along the River. (In these photos, only the Canal portions are shown.) I had heard that work was about to be done to ready the Canal for boat traffic by 2002.
I rode to the Canal access point at the Gauron Bridge in Ville St. Pierre, and then headed west along the Canal to its end at Lachine. There was a strong headwind. I then rode downriver, along the River Path.
Regaining the Lachine Canal at the Atwater Market, I headed first eastward, to the end of the Canal at the Harbour. From Des Seigneurs onward, I chose the south bank path. I did not go into Old Port, but sighted it from under the Expressway Bridge. I returned to the Des Seigneurs Locks along the north bank path.>/p>
From Des Seigneurs, I returned westward. I made a short detour at Atwater Market to get a shot of the Market itself under better light. Then I continued westward. I was disappointed to find that I was too late to catch pre-construction images of the Cote St. Paul locks. I continued westward as far as the Cote St. Paul Bridge.
I completed the ride by heading up through St. Henri to St. Jacques, and climbing up the hill to DeMaisonneuve.
