Monday, May 22, 2000: Victoria Day Ride
I rode down to the Canal at the Ville St. Pierre approach, and then followed the Canal to its end at Lachine. I took a detour to check out the new canal locks at Lachine (but no photos).
From there I rode down along the river' edge along the Riverfront Bike Trail, returning to the Lachine Canal at Atwater. Along the way, I saw the new part of park at the Lachine Rapids, the north part of island. I saw the new belvedere at Verdun, by the old stone house: A great lookout on the River. I rode by the new condo developments going up where the old Verdun Stadium used to be.
Once back at the Lachine Bike Path, at Atwater, I rode east a short bit, to see the new work on the Charlevoix bridge, where a bike path underpass was in the works. I saw billboards announcing the full development plan for the canal.
I spent some time at Atwater exploring the abutments for an old bridge abutment the must pre-dated the tunnel. All the times I had passed by there, I had never noticed them. The new apartments were going up just west of the Atwater Market.
I rode by the new locks under construction at Cote St. Paul, still unfinished. I took a photo of the old Cote St. Paul Bridge, which I had heard was soon to be replaced.
I then rode back along the Canal through Lasalle, to my starting point in Ville St. Pierre, in order to complete my photo record of the Canal by filling in this last gap.
